Security and data handling

Your recipes, pack prices, and vendor invoices are the playbook for your kitchen. This page explains where that data lives, who can see it, how it is backed up, and how to take it with you.

Where your data lives

• MenuForge runs on DigitalOcean. Your account data is stored in a DigitalOcean managed PostgreSQL database.
• Traffic between your browser and MenuForge uses HTTPS (TLS). The database connection is encrypted, and the managed database is encrypted at rest by the provider.
• Every record is tied to your company account. The app checks that account on every read and every change, so one restaurant cannot see or edit another restaurant’s recipes, ingredients, or invoices.

Backups

• The managed database keeps the provider’s automatic daily backups.
• On top of that, MenuForge takes its own backup of each company account every week.
• If something is deleted by mistake, email support@menuforge.ai and we will help you recover it.

Take your data with you

You own your recipes and costs. From inside the app you can download your ingredient list (with pack sizes, units, and costs) and your recipes as Excel workbooks, and print build sheets and recipe books as PDFs. There is no export fee and no lock-in. If you close your account and want your data deleted, email support and we will confirm when it is gone.

Payments

Subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Your card number goes straight to Stripe and is never stored on MenuForge servers.

AI features

When you use an AI feature (drafting a recipe, reading an invoice, writing a menu description, or converting a unit), MenuForge sends the text or invoice image needed for that request to OpenAI’s API and saves the result in your account. OpenAI’s API terms say API data is not used to train their models by default. AI never sets your plate cost: costs always come from your own pack prices and invoices.

We never sell your data

MenuForge does not sell, rent, or share your recipes, pack prices, or vendor data with distributors, advertisers, or anyone else. Your case prices stay yours.

Certifications

MenuForge does not hold a SOC 2 report today. We are a small team and we would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. If your group needs a security questionnaire filled out, email support@menuforge.ai and we will answer it directly.
